San Diego Housing Action Day – Be Part of the Action

For the last year Housing You Matters has been working hard to catalyze action from our San Diego City officials to put housing at the top of their agendas and now they have!! The San Diego City Council is hosting a special San Diego Housing Action day on Monday July 24th.

There are 3 pro-housing policies that City Council will consider on the 24th and we need your help to make sure they pass:

  1. Companion Unit (Granny Flats) Code Amendments – Less fees, reduced requirements

  2. Affordable Housing, Sustainable, Infill Expedite Program – Code Amendments

  3. CEQA Appeal Fee – moving from $100 to $1000 to help mitigate frivolous appeals

Adopting these initiatives will release costly constraints on the market and spur the building of desperately needed housing.

Take Action! 2 easy ways you can help make sure these policies are adopted:

Phone:

When you call your city council member say the following.

  • My name is ______ and I am a constituent of district XX.
  • I am calling to ask Councilmember XXX to support the pro-housing policies that will come before the Council on Housing Action Day, on July 24th.
  • The San Diego Regional Chamber’s recently published study shows that our city is on pace to produce only half of the units we need to accommodate population growth by 2020.
  • A continued housing shortage will slow our economy and hurt earning potential for our families.
  • It’s simple: lowering the costs of building will increase the supply and the opportunities for San Diegans to live and work in San Diego.
  • Please support the pro-housing policies coming before council on Housing Action Day.

Dear Councilmember (Last Name):

As a concerned resident of San Diego, I respectfully ask you to please support the below pro-housing policies coming before you on July 24, 2017 – City Council’s Housing Action Day.

  1. Companion Unit (Granny Flats) Code Amendments – Less fees, reduced requirements
  2. Affordable Housing, Sustainable, Infill Expedite Program – Code Amendments
  3. CEQA Appeal Fee – moving from $100 to $1000 to help mitigate frivolous appeals

With the city of San Diego only scheduled to produce 51% of the units need for our population growth by 2020, San Diego’s employers will continue to struggle to retain and attract talent, and families will continue to lose substantial chunks of their income for overpriced housing.

The proposals coming before you on July 24th will release costly constraints on the market and spur the building of desperately needed housing. Please support these pro-housing proposals on Housing Action Day and I thank you for the opportunity to share my concern.

Sincerely,
